Suicide Girls: Blackheart Burlesque brings nerdgasms to Vancouver tonight

Dec 19 2017, 10:42 pm

Just when we thought we couldn’t get any geekier, The Suicide Girls bring their Blackheart Burlesque show to the Rickshaw Theatre tonight.

With the annual Vancouver Fan Expo having come to an end, what can us nerds do to fill the void? How does some tatted up hot ladies throwing on storm trooper helmets and doing a little naughty dance sound?

If you’re not familiar with the Suicide Girls check out their website. Wait...make sure you’re not at work – NSFW. Let’s just say there are some boobs, so if you’re not old enough to see boobs or your office has a no boob policy, then no boobs for you!

Let’s just say the site showcases alt-looking models in various states of undress. You dig?

That said, the site has been a Godsend when it comes to putting a modern spin on the classic pinup girl. So it was a match made in heaven when founder Missy Suicide decided to marry the pinup girl with the burlesque show and it has been a success since 2003.

“In the same way as the website (Suicide Girls) has a more modern take on pinup girls, we thought we wanted to bring something similar to Burlesque,” Missy told me as we conversed on Skype. “We wanted to keep the sexy, classical spirit of burlesque but add our nerdy, pop culture twist to it.”

This is the second time that the tour has hit Vancouver and according to Missy, Canada is the mecca when it comes to the burlesque art form.

“To be perfectly honest Canada is the best. Canadians really understand burlesque and I find the audience knows what to expect. The crowds are always louder in Canada. They are always more appreciative, and just seem to get it.”

Yeah we get it. There is nothing better than half naked women dancing around to Star Wars and or Planet of the Apes. Ladies and gentlemen rejoice because this is your chance to see some very talented dancers who will bring some of your nerdgasms to life.

The show is heavy on pop-culture references, there are numbers inspired by everything from Fifty Shades of Grey to Game of Thrones to The Little Mermaid matched with some fantastic music. Even if you have seen the show in the past, this is a new crew of ladies with some updated numbers being added to the mix.

“There are some sexy new numbers and I just watched one of the new ones that was just added the other day and you folks in Vancouver are in for a treat.”

Yes we are in for a treat. This is not your ordinary burlesque show, the Suicide Girls like to push the boundaries.

There are still a few tickets remaining but expect this thing to sell out. There is nothing for you to do tonight. Netflix is not going anywhere. Get off your ass, grab your best mate and get your tickets here. The ladies will also be making a stop in Kelowna tomorrow (April 7, 2015). Enjoy.
