The holiday season is the most joyful time of the year for most, full of parties and moments to connect with your friends and loved ones. However, this is often a lonely time for many seniors.
An estimated 1.4 million seniors in Canada reported experiencing feelings of loneliness, with socially-isolated seniors being at higher risk of negative health behaviours.
Nobody should be excluded from the Christmas cheer, and there’s a way that you can do your part this festive season. London Drugs is holding their annual Stocking Stuffers for Seniors donation drive, where gifts will be distributed to 15,000 lonely, isolated, low-income seniors over the holiday season.
Originating in the Okanagan, British Columbia, and expanding to the Edmonton, Alberta market the Stocking Stuffers for Seniors campaign quickly grew to include all 80 London Drugs locations in 35 cities across Western Canada.
Since the campaign begun, approximately 14,500 seniors have received gifts for the holidays.
Visit your local London Drugs and choose a tag from the store Christmas tree, containing the personalized wish-list of a local senior from one of 90 care homes or senior organizations in partnership with London Drugs.
All you have to do is purchase or bring new, non-gift wrapped items, along with the gift tag, and drop them off in-store. You can contact your local London Drugs to find out about donation deadlines. If you’d like to get more personal, include a Christmas card from you with your gift!
The gifts will be delivered to the seniors before Christmas, hoping to make their wishes come true and significantly improve their spirits. There is no better feeling than giving back to others less fortunate.
It’s the season of giving, so do your part and see how your gifts are creating Christmas cheer for the seniors in your community.
