Another phase of the Station Square redevelopment in Burnaby’s Metrotown area has reached completion.

And a new 30-second time lapse video shows its construction — from a large hole in the ground, ascending to become one of the region’s tallest buildings. The video features two residential towers — Tower Two (354 ft, 35 storeys) and Tower Three (574 ft, 57 storeys) — rising above podium levels with retail and office space.

Anthem Properties Group and Beedie Development Group’s partnership on the redevelopment of the old Station Square site, located immediately west of Metropolis at Metrotown shopping mall and SkyTrain’s Metrotown Station, so far has also seen the completion of 35-storey and 38-storey residential towers.

Construction on the remaining two towers — 45-storey Tower Four and 52-storey Tower Five — are slated for completion in 2021.

While the overall complex was designed by local firm Chris Dikeakos Architects, Tower Five is set apart from the others with the involvement of New York City-based Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, which is known for Hong Kong’s International Commerce Centre and The Landmark, Singapore’s Marina Bay Financial Centre, and New York City’s recently-completed 30 Hudson Yards tower.

WeWork, occupying two lower floors to create 1,200 co-working desks, will be one of the new Station Square’s largest commercial tenants.

PriceSmart, replacing the former Save-On-Foods in the original Station Square, is the redevelopment’s largest retail anchor.

An area dubbed ‘Restaurant Row’ is now home to eateries such as Cactus Club Cafe and Earls Restaurant.

Altogether, the mixed-use redevelopment when fully complete will entail nearly 2,000 homes and over 450,000 sq. ft. of new office and retail space.
