Starbucks is now open at a future Broadway Subway station

Amid news of a wave of Starbucks closures, a new location has opened along Vancouver’s Central Broadway corridor.
The coffee chain has moved into the ground-floor retail space designated for a cafe in the newly built The Stories tower.
The cafe occupies the building’s very prominent corner with the intersection of West Broadway and Granville Street — immediately adjacent to the future subway entrance to South Granville Station on SkyTrain’s Millennium Line Broadway extension.

The location is expected to see heavy foot traffic once the subway extension to Arbutus opens in late 2027.

However, this opening does not represent a net gain of Starbucks locations for the immediate South Granville area — it is a one-for-one replacement.
Following the opening, Starbucks has also closed its longtime cafe inside the Indigo bookstore, diagonally across the intersection at the southwest corner.
That cafe was accessible from both inside the bookstore and through its own streetfront entrance.

Developed by PCI Development and completed in 2025, The Stories is a 39-storey, mixed-use tower with retail/restaurant space on its first two levels, 106,000 sq. ft. of office space on the upper levels of its base podium, and 226 secured purpose-built rental homes in the remaining levels of the tower.
A Royal Bank of Canada branch has also reopened at the site, occupying a retail unit near the middle of the tower.
In June 2026, a 19,000 sq. ft. Loblaws City Market grocery store opened on the second level. Its ground-floor entrance is near the eastern end of the building’s West Broadway frontage.
Last week, Starbucks announced it will close about 250 locations across Canada and the United States, representing roughly one per cent of its North American locations. At least three locations in Downtown Vancouver have already closed since the announcement.
