If you’re not particularily a fan of our homegrown brand Tim Hortons’ coffee (and you wouldn’t be alone), chances are you’re getting your cup of joe from one of the chain’s competitors.

If your brand of choice happens to be Starbucks, then we’ve got some stats that you might find interesting.

According to Finder, an independent comparison platform and information service, Starbucks Canada’s coffee price is relatively reasonable compared to the rest of the world.

The company created The Starbucks Index in order to compare the differences in price for the same cup of coffee in 76 countries around the world.

For Canada, Finder used Toronto as the benchmark for pricing. The city ranked as the 50th most expensive place to buy a tall latte (CAD$4.15).

At the top of this list, you’ll find Copenhagen, Denmark, where the same tall coffee costs $7.98.

So what’s the cheapest according to this list? Apparently, folks in Istanbul, Turkey pay just $2.35 per beverage.

This index does not include variables like the cost of raw coffee, local labour costs, and taxes. It’s simply a “way to measure local prices for a common item against other countries.”

The study is prefaced with the fact that the “final index measures each country’s coffee cost to GDP-per-capita ratio against the average trend across all countries.”

This means it measures the actual cost of a coffee compared to what a country’s GDP indicates it should be.
