A COVID-19 case has been detected at a long-term care home in Surrey.

Fraser Health says that the affected individual is a staff member at the Evergreen Hamlets, which specializes in care services for adults with brain injury, Huntington’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, and Cerebral Palsy.

The staff member is currently in self-isolation at their home and a rapid response team is on site. Communications with residents and families are underway.

“Enhanced control measures have been put in place at the site and Fraser Health is working with staff to identify anyone who may have been exposed and is taking steps to protect the health of all staff, residents and families,” said the health authority in a statement.

Measures being taken include ensuring adequate staffing levels, restricting visitors throughout the facility, restricting the movement of staff and residents, increasing cleaning, and notifying residents and family. Staff and residents will also be screened twice a day.

Evergreen Hamlets is owned and operated by H&H Total Care Services.
