Buying groceries can help kids in Vancouver this holiday season with SPUD.ca and YMCA

A strong sense of community is something many Vancouverites value. A community is not just where you live, it’s the people you interact with and where you gain a sense of belonging. Community can mean the street you live on or something bigger like the global community of planet earth. Whatever you define as your community, one thing remains the same: it feels good to give back to it.

Many organizations realize the importance of community as well, including local favourite SPUD.ca, a sustainable online grocery store that delivers local, organic produce throughout the Lower Mainland. Spud strives to develop strong relationships within the neighbourhoods they serve; from sourcing local vendors like Uprising Bread, The Daily Catch and Roots Organic Farms to supporting local non-profits like the YMCA of Greater Vancouver, A loving Spoonful, and Loco BC. SPUD.ca endeavours to connect with people, and to help others connect to their neighbours.

With every delivery SPUD makes, they drop off a reusable bin full of local food and pick up the old bin. Through this unique system they’re able collect items from their customers and send them directly to various groups and organizations in their community. From grad dress drives to food drives or warm clothing drives, it’s a great and simple way for people to get involved and support those in need.

How you can help

This year, SPUD has teamed up with the YMCA to support the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign, which gives local children and families access to life changing services they couldn’t otherwise afford. Buy a half price produce box ($40 value for only $20) and $4 from each box will go to the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign. SPUD will also donate 5% of all subsequent orders too. It’s an easy way to get some amazing food delivered to your door and continue to help kids grow to their full potential.

It feels good to be a part of something bigger than ourselves. Whether it’s an idea a group or movement, it gives us a sense of purpose. SPUD.ca allows you to feel good about the choices you make through supporting your local food community and the community you call home.
