Cobblestone streets, historic buildings, and a buzzing arts and culinary scene — Gastown is made for exploring.
From cozy brunch spots to lively late-night bars, this iconic neighbourhood has something for everyone, whether you’re a local looking to switch up your routine or a visitor diving into Vancouver for the first time.
As the weather warms up and the evenings stretch, spring is the perfect time to soak it all in before the summer crowds roll through.
So, here’s how to spend the perfect spring day out in Gastown, straight from a local.
Take a coffee stroll

Of course, you’ve got to start your morning in Gastown with a coffee. Head to Cafe Kitsuné, located at 157 Water Street, a cozy, intimate cafe and clothing store created by Paris-based fashion and music label Maison Kitsuné.
On the menu, you’ll find a mix of hot and cold specialty drinks — like its popular Matcha Latte, Chai Latte, and Iced Yuzu — that you can pair with a buttery pastry or sandwich. Then, take your drink to-go and wander the historic streets.
As you sip, browse some of Gastown’s independent shops, stylish boutiques, and gift stores.
Stop for brunch

On Powell Street, The Bird and The Beets is the perfect mid-morning stop with its bright interior, chilled-out vibes, and a menu with brunch and lunch options.
Go for a classic like Poached Egg & Avocado Toast (complete with pickled onions and house-fermented hot sauce) or opt for something more unique like the Miso Barley Bowl — a nourishing, umami-packed dish with seasonal veggies. The Tofu Banh Mi sandwich is also a favourite and perfect for a plant-based pick-me-up!
Check out The Art of Banksy Exhibition
There’s always something going on in and around Gastown, and right now you can check out The Art of Banksy “Without Limits” exhibition — which features over 200 works from the elusive street artist.
The collection features original art, prints, photographs, sculptures, and murals, as well as interactive installations like the Infinity Room and a simulated recreation of Banksy’s biggest ever art piece, Dismaland Bemusement Park.
Tickets start at $28 and you can purchase them over on The Art of Banksy’s event page. The exhibit runs from now until June 22, so be sure to catch it while you still can!
End the day with dinner and drinks
As the sun sets, Gastown really comes alive. Whether you’re in the mood for cocktails, tacos, or tunes, there’s a spot with your name on it.
Start your night at LOCAL — take a seat in its spacious patio for some golden hour drinks and people watching. Here, you’ll find a big menu full of west coast comfort food and a laid-back atmosphere.
Or, head to Monarca, one of the neighbourhood’s most exciting dinner destinations. Known for their elevated take on Mexican cuisine, Monarca serves up flavourful favourites like Tacos de Cochinita and the Enchiladas Gratinadas. (P.S. Don’t miss their epic margarita lineup!)
Finish the night at Guilt & Co., a dimly lit underground bar with a rotating lineup of live music. Sip on expertly crafted cocktails while taking in performances that range from jazz and funk to indie and soul.
So, there you have it — the perfect spring day out in Gastown. Happy exploring!
