Spaghetei grand opening: Japanese style spaghetti

Dec 19 2017, 3:32 pm

What is Japanese style spaghetti? It’s basically spaghetti pasta with Japanese flavours, so kind of like the pasta version of a Japadog. Spaghetei, a brand new restaurant on Robson Street, brings  Japanese spaghetti to Vancouver.

This sort of spaghetti is actually very popular in Japan where Western style dishes, such as the ones served at Spaghetei, are called yoshoku ryooli. You’ll find familiar Japanese ingredients, such as miso and soy sauce, in their pasta dishes. Some examples shown in the menu below include their Meat Miso and Salad spaghetti and their butter and soy sauce spaghetti. One very unique dish on their menu is the Bacon and Natto spaghetti. Natto is fermented soy beans, and is actually very delicious as long as it’s complemented with the correct spices and condiments such as green onions. Natto is considered a health food in Japan.

If you take a look at the menu you will also see that Spaghetei offers a wide range of red and white wines, the perfect pairing for a delicious bowl of pasta. The prices at Spaghetei are very reasonable making it a top choice dinner spot with friends. I would recommend splitting a couple pasta dishes and maybe salad, leaving enough room for some delicious wine to savour your meal and company with. Life is all about unique experiences, so come on down to Spaghetei and try some delicious Japanese inspired pasta dishes. Plus, until next weekend, all pasta dishes are 30 per cent off!
