New Yaletown hotel opens in former office space

The Yaletown district of downtown Vancouver recently saw the opening of a new chic boutique hotel under the “aparthotel” concept.

Smithe House hotel is located at 225 Smithe Street at the northwest corner of the intersection of Smithe and Cambie streets.

The serviced apartment hotel concept offers studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartment suite layouts, featuring full kitchens with integrated appliances, living areas, custom-made furniture, and laundry equipment.

Unlike a traditional hotel, Smithe House revolves around a “tech-powered stay experience” using a digital key system for check-in, check-out, and guest services.

Bookings are available for both traditional short-term stays and extended long-term stays.

“When we set out to design Smithe House, we wanted to be really intentional about the details. From functional layouts and custom-made furniture to locally-made amenities and a personalized coffee program — the focus has been designing a stay experience that you can’t find elsewhere in the city,” said Javier Cepeda, Managing Partner of Smithe House, in a statement.

“Smithe House invites guests to experience the city like a local but with the personalized details you’d expect from a boutique hotel.”

The boutique hotel property opened in late 2024.

For a limited time only for stays through May 1, 2025, lower rates are offered for longer stays up to 30 days, and BC residents receive 15% off bookings.

As previously reported by Daily Hive Urbanized, this hotel takes over a previously vacant former office space within the base of the 2021-built, 26-storey mixed-use residential building of The Smithe tower, developed by Boffo Developments. The new space was never leased to an office tenant.

Over 30,000 sq ft of office space within levels three to five were converted into three dozen hotel suites, with the main hotel entrance located on Smithe Street — repurposing what was previously the office lobby.

There are about 100 condominium homes above the hotel floors. Hotel guests do not have access to the building’s residential amenity spaces.

From the exterior, the building is visually distinct by its illuminated colourful ceiling mural hovering below a covered outdoor residential space.
