Small Business Profile: Elfsar Comics & Toys

Dec 19 2017, 11:40 am

Nestled in an old Yaletown warehouse on Hamilton Street, close to the Urban Dwellers Yaletown home is an interesting shop called Elfsar Comics & Toys.

As a child I was a comic book geek, X-men was and still is my favourite. As I grew older, I got inundated with work, school, partying, girls and well pretty much life in general that comics and video games had to take a back seat. However, I still dabble in a little bit of comic book action every once in a while. Which led me to highlight a store I frequent every once in a while, Elfsar.

The question on most people’s minds is usually, “what does Elfsar mean”? It’s actually just a made up word with no meaning. However, if you must know they have an in depth response at their website. Its worth a read.

When Elfsar first opened its door in 2003, it was not only a comic book store but an art gallery as well, however the rental gods forced them to get out of the art gallery business. Personally I miss the art gallery days but their focus on comics and toys has definitely paid off.

The thing I admire about these guys is they are more than just a comic book store. They do events, have signings, and are very passionate and vocal about the industry. They carry all sorts of comics, graphic novels, toys and collectibles and lots of other things. Elfsar is open 7 days a week and till late on Wednesdays. So if you consider yourself to be a comic book “geek”, then Elfsar is your paradise, so get your ass over there. Luckily, I’m fortunate enough to live close by so I don’t have to worry about the dreadful Yaletown parking.
