Cross-country skier Andrew Musgrave left it all out there at the Winter Olympics.
Musgrave, a 35-year-old Brit competing in his fifth appearance at the Games, landed in the top 10 of an event for just the second time in 16 attempts when he came sixth in the 10km individual event on Friday.
“I was never going to be in the fight for a medal, but I probably should have got that fourth spot. But there isn’t a massive difference to sixth, without a medal,” Musgrave told BBC Sport. “I don’t think we’re going to be the world’s biggest ski nation. But we’ve definitely put ourselves on the map as a cross-country nation and shown we can compete.”
But while a story of resilience of an Olympic veteran is typically inspiring, it’s not exactly why he was going viral this week.
For starters, Musgrave was one of a few skiers opting to go for a lighter outfit in the event, figuring that they wouldn’t need the traditional longsleeve garb for a nice day out.

During his post-game interview, Musgrave also had to pull aside to vomit, battling the Italian sun (with a high of about 8°C on Friday) and a bit of internal drama, um, coming out on the surface.
“Quite often with shorter, harder races, when we push with super-high lactic acid levels, I sometimes have to vomit at the end. That’s always a sign I have pushed it hard,” Musgrave said, via the Daily Express.
Fortunately (or unfortunately) video of the incident is not viewable in Canada.
There are three remaining men’s cross country skiing events at Milano Cortina 2026, with Musgrave having competed in at least three events in all of his past four Olympic experiences.
We’ll be keeping an eye on his arms — and his stomach — for the remainder of the Winter Olympics.
