Shots fired at 17-year-old driver in Burnaby: RCMP

Police are investigating after a teen driver was reportedly shot at while behind the wheel.

The incident occurred on Saturday, May 30, at approximately 2:15 am, according to a statement from the Burnaby RCMP. Frontline officers responded to a report of shots being fired in the area of Austin Road and Lougheed Highway.

Upon arriving at the scene, police found an uninjured 17-year-old who told them that he had been “shot at while driving.”

At this point in time, police believe that this is a targeted incident and are asking for any witnesses to step forward. Drivers with dashcam footage of the area of Austin Road and Lougheed Highway on Sunday morning are asked to contact the RCMP.

Specifically, police are looking for any suspicious behaviour that might have taken place at the time of the incident.

At this point of our investigation, locating any vehicles exhibiting suspicious behaviour in the area such as speeding or driving erratically will be key evidence, said Corporal Mike Kalanj with Burnaby RCMP.
