Wine Wednesday: Set the Mood with Moscato d'Asti this Valentine's Day
For Wine Wednesday this week, it’s all about the best wine for Valentine’s Day.
I have to be honest: I really don’t embrace Valentine’s Day. My view is that when you’re in a relationship, you owe it to the person you love to show them every day why you’re the lucky one. But regardless of my own preconceptions, I can still help to arm you with the best wine choices to ensure you have a successful celebration.
So what’s my top pick for a romantic libation? Moscato d’Asti — literally, the moscato grape from the Asti region of Piedmont, Italy.
Here’s why I Iove it:
- It has a taste profile that almost everyone can appreciate and understand. It presents a tiny bit of effervescence, making it bright, tingly and alive.
- A Moscato d’Asti usually has about 5.5% alcohol by volume. That’s just enough to lend you courage, but not enough to encourage bad decisions.
- There are amazing versions in basically every wine shop, which makes it very easy to find.
Think of a Moscato d’Asti as the Barry White of wine. It’s your favorite poet and the most romantic mix tape all steeped in one sexy bottle.
Here’s a fantastic variety available at almost every BC Liquor Store:
Batasiolo “Bosc dla Rei” Moscato d’Asti, $21.99
This wine evokes a sensation of happiness and desire. It provides the ambiance of a fireplace, a bearskin rug and a cabin in the mountains all in one. It’s both gentle and caressing, with a hint of apricot blossoms, white peach and a core of meadow flowers. Enjoy!
