Second Chance Horse Rescue Society Needs Your Help

Dec 19 2017, 5:40 pm

Second Chance Horse Rescue Society is a registered non-profit organization that is specifically dedicated to horses. A fairly young operation that was founded in February of 2013 their mission is not only to save horses in need, but to also help those who can no longer care for their equine friends.

They are seeking permanent homes for the horses in their care, and will take the time to make sure that any partnership they approve has the best possible chance for success.

In the short one year of being in operation, they have managed to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home over thirty-five horses. This would not have been possible without the help and support of the community.

They are currently fundraising to go to the auction in Kamloops on April 11th. Roughly 50-100 horses go through this once per year auction, with often more than half of the horses winding up at the slaughter house. This is something obviously deeply disturbing, which is why they are doing their part to help as many horses as they can.  They are the only rescue in the Lower Mainland who travels for these types of auctions, which makes their presence imperative.

Last summer, they rescued 7 horses from certain death from similar auctions and placed them into loving, long term homes once they were rehabilitated. The mission is the same this time, but they will not be able to attend without raising at least $2,000 to cover expenses including initial purchase of the horses from the auction, transportation to take them back to the Lower Mainland and then whatever veterinary care/feed they may need.

They are currently holding a raffle for a couple of prizes to encourage donations. The grand prize is a pair of tickets to the Canucks vs Senators Heritage Classic game on March 2nd, and the secondary prize is a KitchenAid Mixer.

It is one entry to each draw with a $5 donation, 5 entries to each draw with a $20 donation and 50 entries for every $100 donation.

People can enter the raffle or make a donation directly on their facebook page by clicking the “donate” button and selecting their payment method of choice.

Donations/entries can also be made via PayPal or etransfer with the address: [email protected]
