The hotel portion of the newly-opened The Shipyards on North Vancouver’s Lonsdale waterfront is now serving its first guests.

In a release, Executive Hotels and Resorts says Seaside, a boutique hotel with 71 guest rooms, has officially opened, providing a new luxury hospitality option with panoramic views of Vancouver harbour and the downtown Vancouver skyline.

“As the ultimate seaside retreat for travelers and locals alike, Seaside brings the sophistication and excitement of downtown Vancouver into the relaxed, natural beauty and lifestyle of North Vancouver to offer an authentically local hotel experience,” said Salim Sayani, CEO of Executive Hotels and Resorts, in a statement.

“We want guests to feel like they’re visiting the comfortable and effortlessly cool vacation home of an old friend—feeling rejuvenated and well cared for at the end of their stay.”

The 84,000-sq-ft hotel property, designed by ZGF Architects, in conjunction with overarching redevelopment architectural firm DIALOG, carries contemporary West Coast finishings.

On-site hotel amenities include the Seaside Provisions restaurant and the Waterfront Spa, opening later this month.

The Shipyards also contains a bookable event venue called The Wallace, with 3,500 sq. ft. of “open modern-industrial space” and 2,400 sq. ft. of outdoor space, capable of accommodating up to 160 persons seated. Both The Wallace and the Pipe Shop Venue, also located at The Shipyards, have been marketed as ideal venues for weddings.

The Shipyards, officially opened in July, features major community gathering spaces, including a 12,000-sq-ft covered outdoor event space that doubles as a free wintertime ice skating rink. A portion of the roof is retractable, opening up a part of the covered area to an 8,000-sq-ft summertime spray park.

A number of retail and restaurants have already opened, eventually also including Nook Italian restaurant, Jamjar Canteen Lebanese restaurant, and flagship JOEY Restaurant. There is also a satellite campus of Capilano University.

Within downtown Vancouver, Executive Hotels recently opened the EXchange Hotel, and it is in the process of constructing a second hotel on an adjacent lot, replacing the Edward Chapman building.
