Salmon return to spawn in East Vancouver's Still Creek (VIDEO)
Chum salmon have returned to Still Creek for the third year in the row, following concerted rewilding and conservation efforts. Salmon returned in 2012 for the first time in nearly 80 years and have continued their annual return since.

The public is welcome to head down and watch the salmon, and learn more about the work that the City and its partners have done to rewild and revitalize this section of Still Creek.
The health of Still Creek declined over many decades due to encroaching development. Today, Still Creek is one of the few remaining visible streams in urban Vancouver and forms an important part of the Brunette River system. The City of Vancouver is working with Metro Vancouver to recapture lost habitat by enhancing sections of Still Creek.
The project to naturalize Still Creek includes work to:
- Daylight sections of the creek that were previously in culverts and paved over
- Remove concrete and naturalize creek banks
- Return creek side habitat to native plantings
- Add interpretive plaques and boardwalks to provide recreational and educational opportunities
Residents are encouraged to help keep our waterways clean by not pouring chemicals or oils down the storm drains.
