Several spice products sold across Canada are being recalled
Several spices sold across Canada are being recalled due to undeclared allergens.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a recall notice for various ground spices and spice blends from the brand Salem Foods, which may contain undeclared wheat, sesame, and mustard.
Affected products include Salem Foods Cookies Spices, Ground Cardamom, and Spearmint. All product codes where wheat, sesame and mustard are not included on the label are impacted.
CFIA health inspection results triggered the recall, and a thorough food safety investigation is now underway, which could see more products recalled. The agency is also verifying that the industry is removing the impacted spices from the market.
So far, there have been no reported reactions associated with consuming the products.
The CFIA has urged Canadians to check the products and not to consume them if they are allergic or sensitive. Those with celiac disease or other gluten-related issues should also not use the products.
Recalled products should be thrown out, or they can be returned to the store where they were purchased.
