Legendary Canadian band Rush announces it's coming to Vancouver after all

After Vancouver was missed in the initial concert announcement, legendary rock band Rush just announced that it’s coming to Vancouver after all.

Frontman Geddy Lee and guitarist Alex Lifeson announced the news on the band’s official YouTube channel earlier today, adding select cities, including Vancouver, to the Fifty Something Tour.

Rush will be playing Rogers Arena in Vancouver on Dec. 15 and presale goes live on Oct. 27.

As the tour name implies, the iconic Canadian band, perhaps best known for the track Tom Sawyer, is celebrating 50-something years of rocking out.

The last announcement featured Toronto but not Vancouver.

Within hours of being uploaded, the YouTube concert announcement racked up nearly 80,000 views.

“We’re so grateful and excited about your response,” Lifeson said.

“We are blown away by the response to the announcement we made a few weeks ago that we’re going back on tour,” Lee said.

“I cannot tell you how surprised and overwhelmed we are,” he added.

Rush’s original drummer Neil Peart, considered by many in the industry as one of the greatest drummers to ever play, tragically passed away in 2020.

Anika Nilles, a German drummer who launched her career through YouTube, will be picking up the sticks in Peart’s place. In the recent YouTube announcement, Lee also commended the band’s fans and followers for welcoming Nilles so openly.

“We just can’t wait to get on stage and make all those mistakes that we’ve been practicing,” Lee concluded with a laugh.

The Vancouver ticket page says limited seats are available, so it appears the demand is heavy.
