Roots and first of three Pret A Manger locations open at Vancouver International Airport

Vancouver International Airport (YVR) has added two major retail and dining brands, with Canadian apparel company Roots returning to airport retail and British food-and-coffee chain Pret A Manger opening its first standalone location in British Columbia.

The new Roots store is located after security in YVR’s U.S. Terminal, near Gate E88. It carries many of the brand’s best-known products, including sweatshirts, cabin socks, beaver plush toys, keychains, and items from its Made in Canada collections.

The store also offers Vancouver-branded fleece and t-shirts aimed at visitors looking for a Canadian souvenir. Select designs from those collections are exclusive to the YVR location.

Roots’ YVR store marks the beginning of the company’s return to North American airports and was opened with support from travel retailer Hudson, part of Avolta.

Meanwhile, Pret A Manger has opened at YVR’s international departures food court after security, introducing a brand that is already well known to many travellers from the United Kingdom and other international markets, but remains relatively unfamiliar in B.C.

The British chain specializes in freshly prepared, grab-and-go food and quick counter service. Its menu includes sandwiches, wraps, salads and baked goods, along with organic coffee and a broad selection of vegetarian and vegan choices.

Open 24 hours a day, this YVR restaurant is intended to serve passengers and airport employees throughout the day, from early-morning breakfasts and coffee to quick lunches and late-night snacks.

It provides a healthier alternative to typical fast food chains.

The opening represents both the first standalone Pret A Manger in B.C. and the chain’s first location inside a Canadian airport. It is also the first of three Pret A Manger locations scheduled to open at YVR in 2026.

Altogether, four new Pret A Manger locations are planned across YVR and Toronto Pearson International Airport through the end of 2026, expanding the British brand’s still-limited presence in Canada.

YVR notes that both the Roots and Pret A Manger openings are part of its broader effort to expand passenger choice while creating a stronger sense of place through a mixture of Canadian brands and internationally familiar offerings.

Last year, Roots also relocated its Downtown Vancouver flagship store to a new location adjacent to the western end of Robson Square.
