Richmond RCMP are investigating after a “suspicious incident” was reported at an elementary school on Wednesday.

According to a release, officers were called to a field near Whiteside Elementary just before 11:30 am after a 10-year-old girl reported that a stranger had grabbed her arm while she was running a lap in a field near the school.

The girl told investigators that the man appeared to be in his 40s or 50s and while she “didn’t feel threatened” by the incident, police said the motive behind the man’s actions “is unclear.”

Police also noted that the man had allegedly been seen taking pictures of the area on his cellphone prior to the incident.

“The incident is considered unusual,” said Richmond RCMP Cpl. Dennis Hwang. “The police would very much like to locate this individual and speak with him.”

Although a picture of the man is not available, police described the man as:

  • Asian
  • Between 40 and 50 years old
  • 5’7 to 5’10 in height
  • Medium build
  • Black hair
  • Clean shaven
  • Wearing brown pants and a black and blue sweater

Police are asking anyone who may have information on this incident to contact Const. Jason Pickering from the Richmond RCMP Youth Section at 604-278-1212.
