Body found in water in Richmond's Steveston Harbour deemed 'suspicious'

Police are investigating after a body was found floating in the water in Steveston Harbour in Richmond on Saturday morning.

According to a release, just before 8 am yesterday, Richmond RCMP responded to reports of a man in the water in the area of the 7000 block of Dyke Road – just east of London Landing.

After being pulled out of the water, the man – who is in his early 70s – received first aid and was rushed to hospital. He was later officially pronounced dead.

Richmond RCMP is investigating with the assistance of BC Coroners Service, and upon initial investigation the circumstances of the man’s death have been deemed suspicious.

Police say the victim is a Richmond resident and does not have a history with law enforcement.

“The Richmond RCMP Serious Crimes Unit (SCU) is taking the lead in this investigation. Investigators will be continuing their examination of area around the 7000 block of River Rd for any clues surrounding this incident,” said Corporal Dennis Hwang in a statement.

“We are asking for the public’s assistance for any information regarding this incident. If someone drove, cycled, or walked in this area and noticed anything around the morning of March 10, please contact our Serious Crimes Unit.”
