More COVID-19 cases have been discovered following an outbreak at Richmond Hospital.

The outbreak was first declared by Vancouver Coastal Health on Thursday, December 3, when at least one staff member of the 4 North Acute Care elderly unit tested positive for the virus.

The health authority announced on Monday morning that outbreaks were declared on the 6 North and 3 South medical units. It’s unclear at this time how many individuals are affected.

“The units are closed to new admissions and transfers at the time,” said VCH in an emailed statement. “All visitation has been suspended until the outbreak measures have been lifted; the exception being for compassionate visits at the end of life.”

Richmond Hospital remains open at this time to receive individuals who require urgent and emergent care.

The hospital will, however, be reducing its surgical capacity to prioritize urgent and emergent surgeries as well as continuing with daycare surgeries.
