The ski season is just around the corner, and a B.C. ski resort will soon reopen to adventurers from around the globe with a new international accolade in its cap.
British publication The Telegraph recently published its list of the world’s 10 best small ski resorts, and Revelstoke Mountain Resort (RMR) came in second place.
Canadian destinations took the top two spots in the ranking, with Alberta’s Castle Mountain taking the top spot in the list that celebrated unique ski experiences.

“In skiing bigger is usually regarded as better – resorts will boast about the length and number of their pistes, their altitude, their snowfall and more,” wrote author Alf Alderson. “But the smaller, lesser-known resorts can often have bigger snowfalls, more vertical, fewer skiers and better off-piste.”
Six hours from Vancouver and under five hours from Calgary, Revelstoke is a small town known for its big mountain.
Revelstoke is home to the biggest vertical drop in Canada, with loads of snow and vast ranges of untouched snow to discover.
That’s why it’s no surprise that The Telegraph highlighted the resort as “Best for variety and vertical.”

“Revelstoke is proof that the term ‘small’ is all relative,” added Alderson.
“Along with huge amounts of off-piste, its annual average snowfall is an impressive 10.5 metres (the resort’s record figure is a mighty 24 metres). The skiing here is superbly varied, especially if you take into account the heli- and cat-ski options, for which it’s possible to book single days rather than having to shell out for a multi-day trip.”
The Telegraph also shouted out Revelstoke as a great destination for tree skiing, “a staple of the North American ski scene.

The B.C. ski resort has been sweeping up the awards lately, being named the third-best overall ski resort as well as being awarded the title of World’s Best Powder in the 2025 Snomad Ski Resort Awards.
It also scored second place in both the Best Ski Resorts for Tree Runs and Best Ski Resorts for Intermediate Skiers categories, and took home third place for Best Ski Resorts for Off-Piste as well as Best Ski Resorts for Snowboarders.
However, skiers will need to wait a little longer to hit the slopes at Revelstoke.
RMR announced earlier this week that the resort is pressing pause on its planned opening day of Saturday, Nov. 29, due to limited early-season snowfall.
“To safely open the mountain, we require more snow coverage, especially at lower elevations,” said the resort on social media. “With guest safety and overall experience remaining our top priorities, we will continue to closely monitor the forecast. As soon as conditions allow, our teams are ready to spin the lifts.”
Another popular B.C. ski resort just north of Kamloops was forced to temporarily postpone its opening due to a lack of snow.
Sun Peaks Resort, a popular ski spot with downhill and cross-country trails and other attractions, was initially scheduled to open on Nov. 22. The opening was pushed to Nov. 27, with the resort opening limited terrain until more snow falls and they can open additional trails.
