140 New Red Light Cameras Installed in BC

Now here’s some good news for all drivers in BC, 140 new traffic cameras will be in use starting today. The cams will be placed in high-risk intersections around the province. ICBC has spear headed this initiative, costing $23 million dollars. Some quick facts of the cams:

  • On average, 23,000 tickets are given out yearly to drivers in camera-equipped intersections. (5% reduction in crashes in a 5 year period)
  • With the new cameras in place, 33,000 tickets yearly are estimated to be handed out to drivers gunning it past the red light.
