Urgent nationwide recall issued for common painkiller
If you recently bought a bottle of painkillers, you may want to check your medicine cabinet after a nationwide recall was issued in Canada.
On Thursday, Health Canada published a recall notice for one lot of a common painkiller, stating that it may be contaminated with foreign material.
“Teva Canada Limited is recalling one lot of the non-prescription drug Novo-Gesic Forte 500 mg (acetaminophen) due to the potential presence of phenolic resin or epoxy, which, if ingested, may cause injury to the digestive system,” reads the statement.

The affected lot was sold in bottles with the Drug Identification Number (DIN) 00482323 and lot number 100083040. It also has an expiration date of Jan. 31, 2029. Pharmacies received the recalled drug in 1,000-count bottles and dispensed it to patients in smaller quantities.
If you have the recalled product, immediately stop using it and return it to your local pharmacy so that it can be properly disposed of and to receive a replacement. Not sure if your product is part of the recall? Make sure to check with your pharmacy.

“Health Canada is monitoring the recall and the company’s preventative and corrective actions,” reads the notice. “If additional safety concerns arise, Health Canada will take appropriate action and inform Canadians as needed.”
There have been other product recalls across Canada recently, including a chicken product sold at Costco, chicken burgers sold at Sobeys, FreshCo, Foodland, and Safeway, as well as thousands of power banks sold at Winners, Marshalls, and HomeSense.
