A northern Ontario couple encountered an incredibly unusual sight over the weekend when they encountered two white ‘spirit moose’ crossing the highway in front of them.
They spotted the white moose and calf on Saturday afternoon while travelling west on Highway 101, just 15 minutes from the small town of Foleyet (about an hour and 15 minutes west of Timmins, ON).
Nicole Leblanc managed to capture the rare and beautiful sight, and she shared the video on Facebook. As of Tuesday morning, the video has been viewed more than 1.5 million times.
In order to protect the rare ‘spirit moose,’ the province of Ontario prohibits the hunting of any moose that is more than 50% white-coloured in the areas near Timmins, Chapleau and Foleyet.
If you want to try to witness this incredible sight in person, sightings of the ‘spirit moose’ typically occur between Foleyet and Timmins, on Highway 101, according to Northern Ontario Travel.
