Rangers fans are pissed about the effort from ex-Vancouver Canucks star J.T. Miller

The J.T. Miller era as captain of the New York Rangers has not gotten off to a good start.

And, frustrations among Rangers fans about their captain seemed to reach a boiling point on Tuesday night.

In the second period of the Vegas Golden Knights game against the Rangers, Pavel Dorofeyev skated away from Miller towards the upper slot with the puck.

Miller, seemingly, gave up on chasing down Dorofeyev. The Golden Knights winger then fed the puck to former Canucks defenceman Ben Hutton, who scored to give his team a 2-0 lead.

The Rangers wound up losing 3-2 to the Golden Knights on Tuesday in Nevada.

Miller’s failure to backcheck on the play had Rangers fans irate with his performance.

“This from Miller is some of the worst body language I’ve ever seen from a pro hockey player in my life,” one fan said.

“He’s the captain,” another fan pointed out. “What does that say to the rest of the team? Sullivan should bench him for this.”

Following the loss, Miller spoke to the media about another frustrating performance from his team.

ā€œSpeaking on behalf of myself, I certainly expect a hell of a lot more production than what I have,” Miller said, according to Mollie Walker of the New York Post.

“I’ve never really gauged my game on points. Typically, when I bring my game, the points come. That being said, this year, it seems like nothing’s really going in the net.”

So far this season, Miller has just 10 points in 21 games.

“If I can raise my personal standard and lead the team a little bit better production-wise. So it’s making me frustrated. It’s hard to control that… Trust me, it’s on my mind, but same time, come a long way, in a sense, of not getting wrapped up in that s***.ā€

Although it sounds like Miller is doing his best to drown out the noise, Rangers fans are beginning to criticize his overall performance this season.

“Does he need to produce more? YES,” said a fan. “But what I care more about is his lack of EFFORT. He’s the dang captain, and he’s the least reliable player effort-wise on the team. Pathetic.”

The loss was a rare blemish on New York’s road record, dropping them to 9-2-1 away from home this season.

Unfortunately for the Rangers, they are 1-7-1 on home ice, resulting in a 10-9-2 record. That has them ranked 11th overall in the Eastern Conference.
