The biggest ramen challenge in Vancouver starts this week
The food challenge trend doesn’t seem to be going anywhere just yet, in fact, it’s just starting at one new-ish Vancouver establishment, Ramen Taka.
The Bidwell Street Japanese ramen spot opened in April. It was the first Canadian location for the brand, which operates five other restaurants in Japan, so ramen lovers across the city flocked to the new eatery to get some of their authentic grub.

Starting Friday, June 1, foodies will be flocking to Taka for a different reason – to challenge their chewing, slurping, and overall eating skills.
The Giga Ramen Challenge dares diners to finish a bowl of Giga Ramen in 30 minutes or less, and they’ve got to drip every drop of broth too.
Whoever finishes will receive their giant ramen for free, but its size is equivalent to five bowls of regular ramen, so it’s going to be a challenge.
Other rules include no bathroom breaks during the challenge, and you’ve got to let Taka take your photo for the ‘gram. If you fail you have to pay and leave without your pride.
Due to a limited number of a special Giga ramen bowl, challengers need to reserve a time slot by messaging Ramen Taka on Facebook or emailing them at [email protected].
Spectators are welcome at this event. Slurp on brave ones!
