Even for a guy who has a habit of wearing his discomfort on his face, Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes has been hurting a bit more than usual as of late.
Hughes has missed the last four games with a reported oblique injuryĀ and has also allegedly been playing through a hand injury. On Sunday, he pulled out of the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament, where he was expected to be a star for Team USA.
On Monday, Hughes’ agent Pat Brisson joined Donnie and Dhali with Don Taylor and Rick Dhaliwal to discuss his client’s recovery.
Will Quinn Hughes be 100% healthy after the Four Nation's break?
His agent, Pat Brisson, joins the guys at 10:15am this morning and talks about Quinn Hughes, Elias Pettersson, and Sidney Crosby.

“The odds are that he’s gonna be way better… he’s gonna be much closer to 100% [after the 4 Nations Face-Off],” Brisson said on the show. “He’s not putting himself at risk during this time period both mentally and physically. It’s gonna be a proper 10 days for him in order to feel better, get better. If he’s not gonna be 100%, the odds are that he’s gonna be very, very close on both injuries that he has… we like our odds that he’s gonna be in a way better position 10 days from now.”
Hughes has been the Canucks’ brightest star in an otherwise trying season for the club. A favourite for the Norris Trophy as the NHL’s top defenceman, he has 59 points by way of 14 goals and 45 assists in 47 games this season.
Brisson added that the mid-season nature of the tournament could also further exacerbate previously existing injuries like Hughes’. With the Olympics set to feature NHL players next season for the first time since 2014, Brisson added that some players might end up opting out if they’re nursing injuries at the time, as Hughes did for the 4 Nations Face-Off.
“You put yourself at risk. You can take another step back. A week [out] can become another 3-4 weeks. There’s lots of players that are banged up right now… there’s gonna be hard decisions to be made [at the Olympics for injured players],” Brisson added.
The 4 Nations Face-Off kicks off Wednesday night when Canada takes on Sweden in Montreal, with the United States playing Finland on Thursday.
