Two Metro Vancouver ridings are set for another political battle as candidates prepare to go head-to-head in today’s provincial byelections.

The two ridings being contested are Vancouver-Mount Pleasant and Coquitlam-Burke Mountain. The byelections for each riding were called earlier this month to fill voids left by NDP MLA Jenny Kwan and Liberal Doug Horne.

Here are the five candidates for Vancouver-Mount Pleasant:

  • Gavin Dew – Liberal
  • Pete Fry – Green Party
  • Jeremy Gustafson – Your Political Party
  • Bonnie Boya Hu – Libertarian
  • Melanie Mark – NDP

And here are the four candidates for Coquitlam-Burke Mountain:

  • Paul Geddes – Libertarian
  • Joan Isaacs – Liberal
  • Joe Keithley – Green Party
  • Jodie Wickens – NDP

Polls opened at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, February 2, and will remain open until 8 p.m. Preliminary results aren’t expected until later this evening, with final results to be tabulated on Tuesday, February 9.

So far, 2,575 ballots have been cast in Coquitlam-Burke Mountain from advanced polling stations, as well as 2,148 in Vancouver-Mount Pleasant.
