A peek inside Vancouver's immersive dream-inspired pop-up (PHOTOS)

The past few months have left many of us cooped up at home, longing for real-life social interaction with our favourite people. We’re over the bread-baking and redecorating phase, and we’re craving epic new experiences.

If you thought summer 2020 was cancelled, think again. From now through August 24, immersive art experience Pretty Lucid Place is happening in Richmond. But this isn’t your ordinary pop-up; it has been designed to allow your imagination to run wild in a dream-like world.

Think of it as a ridiculously fun escape from reality that transports you into a land of interactive creativity. At the pop-up, you can get a sense of what it feels like to be in a lucid dream that also happens to be exceptionally Instagrammable.

Pretty Lucid Place is designed to be tactile and sharable, a place where you can unleash your inner child as you explore the weird and wonderful installations around you.

So, what can you expect? First, make your way through a stream of dreams (you’ll find out what this means when you arrive).

Dive into a duck dystopia, take a spin around a banana split room, or check out the neon graffiti room designed by the Japanese artist Taka Sudo. Make a move on the luminous dance floor through a lucid tunnel, swim your way through 150,000 balls in the ball pit, or find the throne fit for royalty.

Pretty Lucid Place is the brainchild of a Vancouverite who opened up their mind while travelling the world. Now, the group has returned to its hometown to bring creativity to new heights.

All you need to bring with you when you visit is a fully charged camera or smartphone and an open mind to share this experience.

Invite your bubble of friends or family along to the event with you (kids under age two get free admission), but remember to purchase your tickets online in advance as they are not available at the door.

Those under 16 years of age must have a parent or guardian accompanying them, and at least one person’s ID has to match the name on one ticket from your group.

To ensure the safety of all visitors and allow for necessary social distancing during this time, small groups will be admitted to experience the pop-up at different times.

There will also be full deep cleanings between every group as an additional protective measure, and you can find hand sanitizing stations throughout the space. As always, if you’re feeling unwell, be sure to stay at home and rest.

From start to finish, visitors can spend anywhere from 45 minutes to one hour immersed in their surroundings at Pretty Lucid Place. It’s not often that you get to live your wildest dreams in real life, so you don’t want to miss out on the opportunity to do so.
