Zako’s Deli is a small and some what unnoticeable restaurant located at the corner Broadway and Cambie (beside Fresh Slice). This small shop specializes in Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwiches but they also serve up Montreal style poutines.
There are only 2 kinds of poutines here, Zako’s poutine ($4.95 for Small) and Zako’s poutine with smoked meat for an extra $2.
Zako’s poutine is served in cardboard trays and made out of fresh cut fries, local cheese curds and vegetarian brown gravy.
The gravy has great flavor, not overly seasoned, not overly salty. The cheese curd are fresh, they melt a bit from the gravy heat but still has that squeaky texture. The poutine is layered with generous amount of cheese curds and gravy so you can enjoy all the yummy goodness from top to bottom.
This is one of the best places to grab poutine outside of downtown. While you’re at it, grab one of their delicious Montreal style Smoked meat sandwiches as well.
