A wild vehicle incident took place in Port Moody this past weekend, and police are sharing some of the details of what happened.
According to a news release from the Port Moody Police Department, the “unusual” collision took place on Saturday morning, just after 4 a.m.
A patrol officer spotted a “heavily occupied” Honda vehicle with an ‘N’ decal that was travelling on Clarke Road. The patrol officer turned his car around to try to stop the vehicle, but the driver of the Honda fled to a side street.
A little bit later, the officer found the vehicle and discovered that it had crashed into the front yard of a residential home.
Aside from the driver, the officer discovered five passengers in the vehicle, and one passenger was inside the vehicle’s trunk when the collision occurred.
“The 19-year-old class 7 driver did not pass the roadside alcohol screening test and now faces multiple Motor Vehicle Act charges and a driving prohibition. All of the parties were assessed by firefighters at scene,” Port Moody Police said.
Thankfully, there were no serious injuries as a result of the crash.
Port Moody Police Constable Sam Zacharias said that the vehicle “had more occupants than seats, and it certainly could have been a worse outcome.”
“We would like to remind the public to always plan a safe ride home – there are so many options available, including public transit and rideshares,” he added.
