Metro Vancouver police are looking for a man who disappeared nearly 40 years ago

Gordon “Dale” Raymond went missing in 1987, almost 40 years ago, but a police force in Metro Vancouver is renewing the calls for help in locating him.

The New Westminster Police Department (NWPD) is seeking public assistance in figuring out the whereabouts of Raymond.

“Investigators have recently been able to dedicate focused time to advancing this file,” NWPD said.

Commonly known as Dale or Gord, his family hasn’t seen or heard from him since he went missing.

Raymond was 39 years old at the time he went missing and would have been 79 years old today.

Even though it’s the NWPD that is looking for the missing man, in the 1980s, he lived in other Metro Vancouver cities, including Surrey, Vancouver, and New West. He had also lived in Edmonton, Alberta, and Thailand.

Raymond is a Caucasian male, at around 6’2″ tall, with top and bottom false teeth. He also has surgery scars from a broken hip and an appendectomy.

“He was known to work as an aircraft mechanic and drove a cream 1976 Buick Century, similar to the one pictured below. In 1986, he painted the rear windows of his car black and may have slept in his vehicle,” NWPD said.

Police are also hoping to speak to Raymond’s son, Gordon Jr.

“We are committed to supporting this investigation and finding Mr. Raymond,” said Sergeant Andrew Leaver in a statement.

“His family is hoping for answers. Please, be a force multiplier and let’s work together to share this appeal for information,” Leaver added.

Raymond’s sister, Colleen, had a message to share about her brother.

“I remember when my big brother Gord, who eventually preferred to go by Dale, surprised me by showing up at my school choir’s performance in a distant city, where he lived at the time. He walked up to the stage and waved, before we started singing, so I knew he was there for me when our parents couldn’t be,” Colleen said.

You can listen to the performance on the NWPD website.

Colleen added that despite him not showing up for the past 40 years, the family hasn’t stopped hoping that he will.

“If anyone has any information about Dale, no matter how small, please call the detectives. It could make all the difference,” Colleen said.

The NWPD’s Specialized Investigations Unit is behind historical investigations like this one. Anyone with information is asked to call NWPD at 604-525-5411.
