Port Coquitlam home goes up in flames twice within 24 hours

Dec 20 2017, 3:15 am

It’s been a busy weekend for fire crews who were dispatched to two fires at the same Port Coquitlam home.

It was about 12 hours after the first fire on Saturday afternoon that crews responded to a second fire, at the same home, in the 3700-block of Sefton Street.

Fire Chief Nick Delmonico says it’s suspicious only because it appears as if one of the boarded-up doors was broken after the fact.

“Our fire investigator didn’t really find any suspicious activity inside, but because someone looks like they broke in after we boarded the place up, there’s obviously a suspicious tone to it,” he said.

No one was hurt in either fire.

Crews responded to the second fire just after 2 a.m. Sunday morning.

Delmonico says a candle caused the first fire.
