Italian restaurant in Vancouver to close after 16 years of operation

After 16 years of operation in the East Side, Vancouver’s Poor Italian Ristorante announced it will be closing before the end of the year.
“Thank you for 16 wonderful years of support! Itās been an honour serving the Hastings-Sunrise community,” shared the restaurant on Instagram.

Poor Italian, located at 3296 E. 1st Ave., is best known for its selection of pasta and risotto, alongside other Italian favourites.
“Weāre grateful for your loyalty and hope you will continue to support local, independent restaurants,” added the restaurant on its website.
Its final day of operation will be Dec. 21, 2025.

While the restaurant did not provide a reason for the closure, last year an application to rezone the area was approved by the City of Vancouver. The restaurant, alongside other businesses in the plaza, will be replaced by 63 rental units and a ground-floor commercial space.
