Police shoot suspect in fatal Burnaby stabbing

Authorities in Burnaby fired shots at a suspect in a fatal stabbing that took place early Sunday morning.

The Burnaby RCMP says they were dispatched to the 6100 block of 14th Avenue at about 5:50 this morning in response to a call regarding a “double stabbing.”

The officers encountered the alleged suspect on scene, and shots were fired.

The suspect was struck and transported to the hospital with what the RCMP says appear to be “non-life threatening injuries.”

The stabbing victim was also taken to hospital where they later died.

No member of the RCMP or anyone in the public was injured during the gunfire.

The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) confirms they have been deployed to look into the incident.

Additionally, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) have also come on board the investigation.

Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to contact the IIO.
