Police investigate morning shooting and vehicle fire in Richmond

Richmond RCMP is investing a shooting and vehicle fire, that took place this morning.

Just after 9 am on March 12, Richmond RCMP were called to a training facility in the 11000-block of Twigg Place on Mitchell Island following a report that shots had been fired in the area.

A witness reported seeing a man dressed in black fleeing the area on foot.

When officers arrived on scene they discovered a 25-year-old man suffering from serious, potentially life-threatening injuries.

He was transported to a local area hospital and is receiving treatment.

Following this incident, RCMP received a report of a vehicle fire in the 5600-block of No.7 Road in Richmond. Currently, police cannot confirm if the shooting and vehicle fire are related. The shooting is not believed to be a random incident.

The Richmond RCMP Serious Crime Unit, the Integrated Forensic Identification Service, and Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Service and Richmond RCMP Frontline officers have contained both scenes and are gathering evidence.

 “At this point, we are asking anyone who may have been a witness to either of these incidents and have not already spoken with police, to contact the Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212,” said Sgt. Janelle Shoihet, with the BC RCMP, in a release.
