Pineapple Express Review: Stoners Rejoice!

Well after a quick stop over at the Blenz on Robson and Burrard, the Urban Dweller decided it was time to see Pineapple Express. A waft of bud proliferated throughout the air of theatre. Indeed this movie has brought the normally lethargic potheads out in droves.

Dale Denton (Seth Rogen) is your typical lazy stoner civil servant who purchases weed from his equally lazy dealer Saul Silver (James Franco). One day on his way to deliver a summons, Dale witnesses a murder and comedic hilarity ensues. Originally Dale was to be played by James Franco and Seth Rogen was supposed to play the lazy stoned dealer. However, during script readings the two decided it would be funny if they switched roles. It worked as both delivered great performances. The scene involving a stolen police car was hilarious. The movie is close to 2 hours; however I spent so much time laughing I didn’t realize how long it really was till it was over. Producer Judd Apatow excels at this sort of raunchy comedy and has wisely allied himself with smart, quirky filmmakers. Kudos go out to Rogen and Evan Goldberg.

If you’re a fan of Superbad then you will thoroughly enjoy this. This movie was made to do one thing, make people laugh. Judging by the amount of laughter during this movie it’s destined to do great things. Maybe it will topple the Dark Knight?
