While humans have been cooped up in their homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, the penguins at the Vancouver Aquarium have been set free to explore.

In a video posted to social media last week, the Vancouver Aquarium explained that a “silver lining” of its closure is that some of the animals are getting the chance to explore the galleries with their caretakers.

The Vancouver Aquarium said the idea came after Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium posted footage of its penguins taking a “field trip” around the facility.

On Twitter, the Vancouver Aquarium added that it had been a “challenging week” for staff since announcing its closure and layoffs earlier this month.

“We’ve really missed exploring our oceans with you and are continuing to look for ways to stay connected during this unprecedented period.”
