Pattullo Bridge fully closing to traffic for multiple days starting this week

The Victoria Day long weekend is just around the corner, and commuters are being warned to give themselves extra travel time due to the full closure of the Pattullo Bridge.
Fraser Crossing Partners, which is designing, building, and partially financing the bridge replacement, announced that the Pattullo will be closed in both directions from Friday evening until Tuesday morning.
The closures will enable crews to install drainage and complete foundation work for the new bridge approaches in both New Westminster and Surrey.

“Excavation will be taking place across the roadways, blocking access to the bridge, and bridge lanes will be occupied by equipment to complete the work,” said Fraser Crossing Partners in a release.
“Pattullo Bridge users are encouraged to take the Port Mann or Alex Fraser during the closure.”
Closures will begin on Friday, May 16, at 9 p.m. and end on Tuesday, May 20, at 5 a.m. Cyclist and pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the weekend.
N19 NightBus passengers will have their northbound and southbound trips rerouted over the Alex Fraser and Queensborough bridges.

“Drivers may experience longer than normal travel times due to detours,” added Fraser Crossing Partners. “Motorists and transit customers should plan for up to 30 minutes of additional travel time.”
Work on the Pattullo Bridge is expected to occur around the clock, with nearby residents also being warned that they may hear noise from the construction activities.
The Pattullo Bridge Replacement recently released flyover footage of construction from Surrey to New Westminster.
The bridge’s cable towers appear to be near completion, and crews are continuing work on finishing segments of the bridge deck.
The Government of British Columbia announced last spring that the new replacement Pattullo Bridge is now slated to open in Fall 2025. The project cost is currently $1.637 billion as of a Fall 2024 fiscal update by the province.
