'Something exploded': Orange liquid seen pouring out of TransLink bus in Vancouver

Passengers on a TransLink bus in Vancouver had an unusual trip on Wednesday evening after orange liquid started leaking from the vehicle.

Video footage posted by Reddit user SpreadTerrible1664 in the Vancouver subreddit shows the liquid flowing out of the bus.

“Something exploded, and smelly burning acid started pouring all inside of the bus. Everyone [is] safe,” they wrote.

The Redditor told Daily Hive that they were a passenger on the bus, and the driver stopped quickly and asked everyone to leave.

Folks in the comments were quick to speculate what the liquid could be.

“1980s McDonald’s orange drink,” joked one Redditor.

“It’s Tang,” quipped another.

However, others noted that it likely was not acid but rather another vehicular fluid.

TransLink was able to provide clarification about what exactly happened, and thankfully, the leak didn’t involve acid or any large quantities of sugary orange drinks.

Translink spokesperson Thor Diakow confirmed with Daily Hive that a coolant leak occurred on the #22 bus at Knight Street and 43rd Avenue just before 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

“No injuries were reported; all customers safely exited the vehicle and were picked up by another bus,” said Diakow.

“Cleanup was completed and the bus was towed to the Transit Centre for repairs.”
