One to Watch: Singer Paige Morgan is musical dynamite

I follow Paige Morgan on Instagram, and if there is one thing that myself and her thousand other followers can agree on, it’s that she’s not just a pretty face. Although it sure helps that her many documented adventures around Vancouver are punctuated with the occasional stunning selfie.

Paige Morgan is a glass of red wine on a Saturday night, resonating that cool sexiness of possibility, her lyrics brim with the all-encompassing wonder of the sun setting over the city, and her alluring gaze at the camera reveals that something fierce is waiting within her heart. Her soulful sound clicks like the turn of a key, and this blonde bombshell transforms into absolute musical dynamite.

While that burning desire to express herself and light the way for others is glowing bright now, it wasn’t always such an easy fuse to follow. After being discovered at 16, Paige soon learned that the industry had a box with her name on it, one that encompassed all the ideas of how a young girl should sound and look.

This wasn’t what Paige had in mind.

She was not willing to sacrifice the real Paige Morgan for mass appeal, and so, with great courage and support, she has stayed true to herself; using her experiences to influence her mantra, and hit song “Never Change.”

Co-written by the Vancouver production team Heratix (Dirty Radio), the 20-year-old singer/songwriter made her debut earlier this month. According to Morgan’s collaborators, she is deemed a major talent and kind of pop chameleon: intuitive, multi-faceted and “genre straddling.”

This is evident in the first few seconds of “Never Change“, which currently has nearly 20,000 views on VEVO, and was featured in the New & Noteworthy section on iTunes the week of release.

“’Never Change is influenced by my mom,” says Morgan. “She told me to never lose who you are and always remain humble, I know I will change and grow, as everyone does in their lifetime, but I never want to lose my humility.”

Every song is attached to a memory and an emotion for Paige, who is authentically expressing her life, both past and present.

“I want to be remembered as passionate,” says Morgan. “I do feel like the moves I make will reflect on my future, but I don’t feel like if I make a mistake it should define me. I believe every regret should be a lesson.”

Fame and fortune is the last thing driving her intentions, instead the road ahead is paved by the desire to bring happiness to others.

“I do this because I love it, and I want to be happy every single day of my life and make others happy,” she says. “Happiness is worth way more than anything to me.”

As her success continues to grow, Paige has one thing to say to both those who have doubted her and supported her.

“Thank you. Thank you for always giving me the chance to prove you wrong and prove you right. Because of that I’ve worked extremely hard to get to where I am. Success doesn’t mean anything until you work for it.”

Paige will be performing at the VanDusen Garden Party on August 23. It’s her last performance of the summer and one you won’t want to miss. Buy tickets HERE
