The Olympics are a special time for sports fans.

It’s a moment to get consumed by sports you’ve barely watched before, or follow the stories of athletes who come from humble roots.

Sometimes, though, it’s not all excitement and glory. Just ask NBC Sports commentator Todd Richards.

After the finale of the men’s big air snowboard event, Richards offered a brutally honest assessment of what he just witnessed.

ā€œThat was boring,” he said. “That was so boring. The qualifying was more exciting.ā€

Well, alrighty then.

Richards is commentating on his sixth Winter Olympic Games. He was a former Olympic snowboarder who competed when the sport made its debut at the Olympics in 1998.

Kira Kimura, a 21-year-old Olympian from Japan, took home gold in the event. It was his first-ever Olympic medal.

His Japanese teammate, Ryoma Kimata, won the silver medal. Su Yiming of China took home bronze.

Francis Jobin of Canada finished seventh in the event, although some fans thought he deserved better.

“These judges ROBBED Francis Jobin,” one fan said. “I am livid.”

“How do you penalize Francis Jobin and not Su [Yuming],” said another.

Although Yiming won bronze, his hands touched the ground on the final run. However, he wasn’t punished as severely as Jobin was for having a hand touch the ground in the first segment.

At least the broadcast gave Canadian fans something to get their blood pumping. Seems like that wasn’t the case for Richards.
