Canadian athlete asks for homework extension to compete at Olympics

Olympic athletes, they’re just like us.

Just ask 22-year-old Canadian Olympic figure skater Madeline Schizas, who is still in school.

The McMaster University student posted to Instagram on Saturday, showing that she had to ask for a homework extension. The Oakville, Ont. native has a good reason: she’s competing in the Winter Olympics.

“I am a student in your Sociology 2FF3 course and am wondering if I could get a short extension on this week’s reflection,” Schizas wrote to her professor. “I was competing in the Olympic Games yesterday.”

To help her case, she attached a press release from the Canadian Olympic Committee for proof.

No word yet on whether she received the extension from her professor or not.

Schizas is competing in her second Winter Olympics.

Back in 2022, she had a stunning performance in Canada’s team figure skating event. Even though she was just a teenager, she helped Canada finish fourth place, just shy of the podium.

In the individual event back in 2022, Schizas finished 19th.

Since the previous Olympics, Schizas has won four gold medals at the Canadian National Skating Championships, cementing her status as one of the best figure skaters in the country.

She’s Canada’s lone competitor in the women’s singles figure skating events. Medals for the short program and free skate will take place on Feb. 17 and Feb. 19, respectively.

Schizas also got her Olympics underway before the opening ceremonies on Feb. 6, with her first skate at these Olympics as part of the team event.

After a busy day competing in the Olympics and partaking in the Olympic Opening Ceremony, one hopes her professor will grant her an extension.
