7 adorable pups up for adoption this Valentine's Day

Did you know that dog adoption in Canada is at an all-time low? That’s right. According to Humane Canada, the annual number of pups taken in for adoption has been on the decline since 2010.

This Valentine’s Day, why not spend the most romantic time of the year giving love to those that really need it? We know some furry friends that would be paws-itively thrilled about it. Plus, we promise finding a new home for your new best friend will be way more rewarding than trying to get a seat at a packed restaurant.

If you are thinking of adopting this Valentine’s Day, we have some very exciting news. Nude Beverages‘ “Adopt Your Love” Instagram contest is giving five lucky winners the chance to find the love of their life in dog (or cat!) form, by covering up to $500 of their adoption fees.

Curious about who your new pet might be? Here are some of the thousands of pups that are currently up for adoption in BC.

Tucker

Everyone, meet Baby Shark, aka Tucker, the 4-month-old Shepherd/Husky cross. This sweetheart is as smart as he is cute and came from a small community in the Northwest Territories. He loves to talk about his day! We smell soulmate paw-tential. Tucker is available from Cross Our Paws Rescue.

Iota

Iota is a three-year-old Shiba Inu living in Vancouver and probably the most fashionable pup in town. This beauty takes a while to warm up to people and doesn’t like other dogs, so being the sole dog (aka queen) of the house would be her jam. Bonus — Iota doesn’t bark! This cutie is available from Save a Life Society.

Diesel

Diesel is a seven-year-old Mastiff/Dane. He gets along great with women and other dogs, but can be a bit fearful of men, and doesn’t get along well with cats, small animals, and children. His ideal house has a secure yard, and he needs another friendly, confident dog to help him along his way. Diesel is available from Cross Our Paws Rescue.

Noony

Noony (or is that Waldo?) is a two-year-old Jindo mix. He is a very loving pup and was one of six puppies rescued from Korea in August 2018. He can be a bit shy when he’s still getting to know you, but is very sweet with people he knows. Noony is a bit scared of going outside for walks, but is getting more confident and loves to play with other dogs and toys. Noony is available from Free Korean Dogs.

TJ

Do you love Labradors? What about Border Collies? You can have the best of both breeds with TJ, a three-month-old cross between the two. TJ is up-to-date with his vaccinations and is neutered. He gets along great with other dogs and would love if your home came with another. TJ is available from Animal Rescue Kingdom. Just look at those eyes!

Twiggie

Twiggie is a tiny three-year-old Chihuahua that weighs 5.5 lbs. She’s still adjusting from her last home and is very afraid of men, but she’s getting better and better each day. She’s no longer as skittish around new people and even lets people carry her around and give her kisses. Can’t wait to declare your love for Twiggie? She’s available at Snookie’s Little Rescue.

Shake & Bake

If you’ve always dreamed of having a French Bulldog, Shake & Bake might just be your ultimate Valentine’s Date for 2020 (and many years to come). Shake & Bake’s health is in tip-top shape, but he does have some behaviour challenges that new owners should be aware of. That said, he’s already seen improvements in his behaviour with lots of love and training. Shake & Bake is available at New Westminster Animal Shelter.
