A North Vancouver School District employee was arrested over child pornography allegations earlier this week.

The arrest took place on Monday, December 7.  Sergeant Peter DeVries, North Vancouver RCMP spokesperson, told Daily Hive that the male suspect worked for the district but was not a resident of North Vancouver.

“The man was arrested on two allegations,” he said. “One of possession of child pornography; one of distribution of child pornography.”

The suspect was released on the same day on conditions to not be found in the company of any child under the age of 16 unless accompanied by another adult, and to not attend any locations known to be frequented by children such as schools, community centres, and playgrounds.

The North Vancouver School District says that they were notified of the incident on the day of the arrest.

“The person arrested in this case is no longer an employee of the school district,” said Communications Manager Lisa Dalla Vecchia.

The district noted that the employee “did not work directly with students.”

“The safety and wellbeing of our students is the Board’s paramount concern,” reads an emailed statement. “The North Vancouver School District upholds the highest standards of conduct for all of our employees, and we will continue to cooperate with the RCMP in their ongoing investigation.”

Police are continuing to investigate the matter at this time.
