Mount Seymour Provincial Park to require day pass during peak dates

A popular North Vancouver park will require a BC Parks day pass every day during peak dates.

Starting Friday, Dec. 19, folks planning to visit Mount Seymour Provincial Park in North Vancouver will need to reserve a vehicle day-use pass. Day passes will be required until Jan. 4, 2026.

After that, passes will only be needed on weekends and holidays until March 29, 2026. Mount Seymour Park is just a 30-minute drive from downtown Vancouver and offers exceptional views of the surrounding areas, including Mount Baker.

It’s visited by many people annually.

“Located in North Vancouver, Mount Seymour Park provides views of Vancouver and facilities for skiing, snowshoeing, tubing and tobogganing. Each year, approximately one million people visit the park. The limited number of passes provide a more predictable and enjoyable experience by reducing congestion in the busy areas,” the BC Ministry of Environment and Parks said in a statement.

The ministry says that starting at 7 a.m., two days before your planned visit, you can book your day-use pass online on the BC Parks website. You can cancel using the same website.

The day-use pass is valid for up to 12 people (including both adults and children) who are travelling in the same vehicle.

It’s important to note that there is a set number of passes available on each day.

“The passes will be checked by parks staff who will also provide safety information to visitors. Since cellphone service may be limited, people will need to print or have a screenshot of their pass and QR code on their mobile device before arriving at the park. Cancelling passes is encouraged if people do not intend to use them,” the ministry adds.

Day passes have been in use since 2020, and the ministry says it’s intended to improve the user experience in the North Shore mountains.

“Setting daily limits on visitor use is one way the Province, park operators, volunteers and visitors work together to care for parks and ensure people can continue enjoying these places safely and securely.”
