North Vancouver to lose heritage crane at Shipyards

Dec 19 2017, 11:23 pm

The World War Two-era Colby Crane stationed at North Vancouver’s Shipyards site might be removed to make room for development by the Pinnacle Development firm.

Pinnacle has asked the City of North Vancouver for permission to move the crane in return for a $500,000 investment in the shipyards site to be used by the City.

The proposal took place at a city council meeting on Monday, May 25 and all but one councillor voted in favour of the report.

The crane in question is one of two cranes remaining from the ship-building days of WWII in Wallace Shipyards. The first was refurbished and currently sits next to Shipbuilders Square. The other was also set to be refurbished eventually.
